PostSubject: Stereo problems   Tue 18 Aug 2009, 10:18 pm

Yeah so I got a rocking system for about a couple days now with no problems until today at work when I was leaving for some lunch. All my stock speakers are making cracking noises and they eventually stop playing. And when I crank it to a safe 30(Vol.) 30 out of 60 (Vol.) they would stop playing and I would hear alot of distortion in the sound from all the speakers (cracking noises). I'm guessing I blew up the speakers even though I carfully tuned the settings on the radio to be what I would consider safe limits (almost completely stock sound). When I left for work in the evening they worked perfectly at 20 Vol. then I put it to 30 for about 10min and they started cracking again. WTF. What would be the best type of speakers for someone who blast their music really loud all the time? I already have 2 Alpine Type R 275watt speakers that I did not install yet but I also need two more.

Im a fan of the Infinity Perfects. Good speaker that will take a lot of pounding. Id look at your gain at the amp to see that you dont have it too high before wrecking the new ones.

Do you have the amp hooked up to the speakers you blew? Or were they just being powered by the headunit?

Rockford speakers usually have a high rms rating also and will take a pounding. I've used alpine's and had good results, as well as mb quart, polk, and JL.

The speakers are hooked up to the headunit and on the headunit setting the amp was set at high power. I just set it to low power today and the volume can't go past 30. I heard no more cracking anymore even in this morning when there was go cracking in the speakers. I got 4 new speakers just in case. The two 275 watt alpine speakers and two 150watt pioneer speakers. Does the setting on the headunit have to do with clipping or cracking in the speakers?
